VEEDERSBURG--Perry Central will have to contain Fountain Central's speed to win the Class A foot... PC hopes to contain Mustang

Fountain Central, which will host the 5 p.m. game, is 11-1 and was ranked ninth in the state in the final Class A coaches poll of the season (Perry Central was ranked seventh). The Mustangs' only loss was 12-7 to Seeger, which finished sixth in the final coaches poll.

Eric Crowder, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound senior, is the Mustangs' top running back. "He has decent speed and pretty good strength," said Spencer. "He's probably comparable to (Ryan) Masters of Clarksville."

Their top receiver is Cole Bowman, a 6-2, 175-pound senior split end, said Spencer. The other split end, 5-8, 145-pound junior Cap Quirk, also has good speed.

"We've got them weight-wise there," said Spencer. "And I think we're quick enough to move with them and not get screened out. But they're pretty good about getting in the way."

Their defense is averaging giving up only 7.1 points per game and has given up three touchdowns in a game only once, in a 25-22 win over Rockville.

"They don't have as many kids on the roster (they have only seven juniors and eight sophomores)," said Spencer. "I think our depth has come along and could be a real asset, but they're used to playing the whole game."

Spencer thinks his team and the Mustangs are pretty evenly matched overall and the outcome could come down to who fumbles or misses a kick or a two-point conversion. "These kind of games we can't make mistakes."

But the Mustangs also have an outstanding kicker in Brett Sheldon, who was born with no arms. "He kicks it very deep on kickoffs and he's kicked a 42-yard field goal," said Spencer.
