"I decided to find out more about it and discovered that daydreaming can become agreat way of improving health and wellbeing when it's used properly."

She says both techniques work with visualisation models to help us achieve our goals in life - so she added these ideas to her own experiences as a daydreamer.

"There is an art to it," explained Lorna. "Some daydreams can be negative. Being aware of that and knowing what to do to turn things around can make a difference to many areas in our lives."

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) encourages people to use areas of their brain that might otherwise be neglected - the part that controls dreaming actually also controls motivation.

Daydreaming can be used to create sanctuaries in the mind - giving us the chance to take a break from stressful situations. This helps us see how we can be more relaxed dealing with a situation.

Lorna said: "All you have to do is close your eyes and see yourself in your favourite place. As you relax, see what you can enhance. What can you hear? What can you smell? As you practice this you can go to unwind anytime of any day."

Many of us find there are some situations where we lack self-confidence. Whether it's exams, job interviews or making a speech. Daydreaming can help us develop a sense of confidence that will serve us on the day.

Daydreaming can be used as part of a weight loss programme. Self-image is very often an important part of weight loss. By seeing ourselves at a healthy weight we help to create the outcome more easily.

When learning, we can use daydreaming to make it easier. Daydreaming ourselves playing the new instrument or riding the bike will help us to relax and perform better when we are actually doing the activity.

She said: "Very often these dreams are full of information from our unconscious minds. Many people who start using daydreaming techniques consciously for the first time find their minds wander. It's quite natural for this to happen. The trick is to relax and bring your focus back.

"My vision is to help people recognise and use the resources they already have in their daydreaming state. I'd love to see the day when kids are encouraged to relax and daydream when they are learning or recovering from illness."
