King of Queens season-opener, 8 and 8:30 p.m., CBS: Here's a dizzying change of pace: To rest the intense Jericho until February, CBS inserts this middle-of-the-road comedy. Don't expect post-nuclear angst. In the first episode, Doug (Kevin James) buys an ice cream truck; in the second, he gets calls from a woman who may have romanced some other Doug Heffernan.

The Nature Of Things, 8 p.m., CBC. The Man Who Couldn't Sleep: profiles Stephen Lewis, Canada's tireless United Nations HIV/AIDS envoy to Africa who is stepping down after five years on the front lines of the pandemic. (Lewis is in London on Saturday for Under An African Sky, a major fundraiser at the John Labatt Centre for a mobile AIDS clinic for Swaziland).

America's Next Top Model, 8 p.m., CITY-TV/The CW. The claws come out as Tyra Banks chooses from among the three remaining contestants in the finale of the seventh season.

The Biggest Loser, 8 and 9 p.m., NBC. In the first hour, Matt Hoover -- the second winner in this weight-loss reality show -- talks to school kids. In the second, we learn who will be the final four.

Medium, 10 p.m., NBC. Maybe we should take a camcorder off our gift list. After Allison gets one for her husband it shows images of a past or future murder.

Punched Up, 10:30 p.m., Comedy. This new series finds a team of comedy goofballs helping others 'punch up' their resumes. Tonight, the team helps Charlie Smith realize his dream of becoming a professional wrestler by arranging a match against WWE champion The Edge. Rowdy Roddy Piper guests.
