With a few simple movements, herbalist and healer Ming Wu can demonstrate how Qigong for Weight Loss (pronounced chi gong) helps improve the metabolism and reduce addiction to foods like cookies, cake and chocolate.

Bailey, Lynne and Wu are just three of the more than 50 alternative and complementary healing practioners who will lecture at the Boston Metro West 2005 Whole Health Expo this weekend in Boxborough.

Participants at the expo can meet exhibitors providing samples of their services such as chair massages, reiki and angel readings. Nutritional supplements, nontoxic cleaning and health and beauty products will also be on sale, and New Age books will be sold at prices 50 percent off retail.

"The expo gives people a chance to meet practioners, see new products and open their minds to different ways of understanding the world through holistic healing, spiritual ideas and the connection between all of the above," said Jonathon Podolsky, producer of the expo.

Those searching for pain relief or massage therapists and body workers hoping to advance their techniques can attend Barry Bailey's lecture on STAR Tech Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m.

Bailey, founder and owner of STAR Tech Healing and Learning Center in Maynard, will demonstrate STAR, which stands for Soft Tissue Active Recovery, a treatment for fast pain relief and healing. With the technique, a cross between yoga and mild aerobics, people create their own "mind-body connection," empowering them to improve their own health and well-being.
